Saw mention of this while digging through your blog and I found reading this incredibly interesting. I love the use of HP as a universal resource that gets taxed for moving in darkness, being surprised, or failing group rolls; also it makes a great way to consistently represent getting lost in darkness in the dungeon or ending the session in the wilderness.(Although if I ran it I might even change the name of HP to help reflect that—maybe "vigor" or "energy". In one of your blog posts I think you mentioned possibly calling them "Heart Points" but the issue is when I see HP it still makes me think of physical injury regardless of what it actually stands for.)
Also unless I'm missing something, wizards are only restricted by how many spells they can memorize, not the level of spell;Wizard spell slots are "level-less" spell slots; I love that kind of vancian magic flavor. It keeps low level wizards from using world-ending spells, but it ensures high level wizards still have to think very carefully about what spells they prepare (Personally, I love OSE but MU's get far too many spell slots at higher levels). Plus the rules around spellbooks and how many spells they can contain! Priestly and Psionic "magic" also look incredibly interesting, though I think I need to read them over again to really comprehend what I read.Even if I never end up scrounging the time and people together to run this for a consistent campaign (as it seems like it needs to really shine), this gives me a lot of good ideas to chew on. Excited to check out COBOLD #1 for the
space-faringsphere-clipping rules!I am absolutely having a having a blast reading through this game! Love the Heritage building and I can easily see myself running something like planescape with this ruleset which always get me excited.
Amazing project man! Please don't give up!!!!!
Incredible project! Please keep improving!
Couldn't read all of it yet but still looks awesome, will play.
hi, do you think you could run the PDFs through an optimiser or similar? 120 meg is kind of a bit too large particularly for phone downloads, and I wouldn't like to see anyone put off
eta: I see there is a 35 meg version too which I missed but just running the pages PDF through https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/compress-pdf.html I get a five meg file
In my experiments optimising it below 35 megs compromises the art a little too much, but I will keep experimenting.
This looks super duper awesome! Sadly the discord invite expired. Could you please update it? :) Would love to play this
I’ve updated the discord link. It’s very strange, this is the third time it’s expired for someone, and each time it’s been an unlimited link. I’m glad you’re excited about the game!
Hi, could you make a version in Portuguese (Brazilian) if possible I would really appreciate it
Gosh, I don’t speak Portuguese but I’m really open to collaboration on translation if any Portuguese speakers want to volunteer their time! Portuguese speakers, join the discord and we can talk!
This looks amazing. The content is great and the art obviously is astounding. If you don't mind, I'll send you a few typos/grammar things to fix up.
Thank you so much! Join our discord! I’d be shocked if they hadn’t he caught already, I just haven’t had a chance to update the files since launch!
Love AFD!
Thank you so much!!!
Beautiful, beautiful game
Thank you so much!!!
Absolutely outstanding. This is an all timer, cannot wait tor run it.
Thank you so much!
I love the Downtime actions, and the visuals make this one of the most handsome bestiaries I've ever flipped through. Killer work!
Thank you so much!
Oh, thank you for the kind words about my monster doodles!
Ravager appears to have been left out of the table of contents and from the "choose a class" section on page 6. I could be misreading it though.
I’ll take a look and fix it up!
I just read through this. Your game fixes so many things that make players feel powerless like not being able to avoid an attack, dying straight away at 0 HP, having enemies save against their special effects without making all characters high magic using spell slinging 1st levels. I also appreciate the way you keep character classes similarly powered to 2e but allow for a lot of out the gate, simple customization, which is one thing a lot of people miss when moving from 5e to old school games.
I will be sharing this with everyone I know who loves RPGs!
Thank you so much!!!
Curti 🥰
